The Measure of a
Man in a Head-Taking Land:
Tribal
Adornment of Nagaland India
Now Open

Get a glimpse into a culture that has traditionally been
vehemently guarded and tucked away from the rest of
the world. The Measure
of a Man, which opened September 18, takes museum
visitors on a journey to Nagaland, chronicling the unique cultures
and practices of the peoples of Nagaland in
northeast
India. The exhibition showcases an ornate
society, layered with various types of adornment that hold intrinsic
and societal importance.
“The Naga people
have such a rich and interesting culture – we have no doubt that
visitors to the museum will be truly surprised and engaged by what
they see,” said Executive Director Katie Anderson.

Visitors
have the opportunity to simply browse the exhibit, or really
dig deeper into the culture through craft workshops, performances,
engaging lectures and the extensive research library. Moreover,
participants will be inspired to connect the significance and
appreciation of Naga ornamentation and related artifacts to a very
unique place and people.
The exhibition
and related programming are sponsored in part
by: Arizona Commission on the Arts, City of Glendale and the
Glendale Arts Commission, Glendale Arts Council, Portland Bead Society,
Northwest Bead Society, West
Valley Arts Council, Arizona Community Foundation, and Wells
Fargo.
